Like the title says, any guess as to what lining this might be? Never installed in the transmission. Appears to be two different materials bonded together? Thanks

Didn't they do that with the first Kevlar bands?

The cotton backing is there to take over after the kevlar wears out... :o

Believe that lining is Custom Friction, bonded Kevlar sheet to the underlayment, prior to the development of woven Kevlar in use today.

These linings are kevlar bonded to a type of plastic underlayment. These proved to be dangerous as the layer that the kevlar is bonded to deteriorates with the heat of the tranny and will eventually find it's way throughout the entire engine. I suggest that they not be used.

The first of the Custom Friction kevlar linings were backed by a cotton material and were a good product, though somewhat difficult to rivet to the bands. Then they changed to the synthetic backing and consequent melt-down problems. I never had occasion to use the later type, so cannot give any help identifying one from the other.

Thanks everyone. I'm guessing that these are kevlar bonded to a cotton backing (see pictures). I had bought these new (many years ago) and only changed the brake band (1926/27) in the car at that time. That band is still in the car with no problems (that I'm aware of).
