I was unaware of heads being machined that way. I remember the head being face down travelling over a rotating grinder.
Certainly us a neat job Randall’s way and suppose keeps the machined face parallel to the head bolt holes

Nice machine Randall, the Storm Vulcan Block Master is one of the best and most accurate and versatile machines for milling heads and blocks. Many racing and high performance engine shops used to use these machines.

Very interesting. I have had it done several times in a machine shop, but I just took the head in and picked it up when finished. So I never actually saw it done.

Thanks Randall for posting that video. You certainly have the correct machine, tooling and know how to do the job right. I just assumed heads were milled on a "Bridgeport" type milling machine.

In the 1960's, I worked in a shop that had a Storm Headmaster, it had a bridge tool that made head setup way faster, maybe somebody else's tool, could set up a head, and machine it in fifteen minutes, easy. I remember, the biggest head it could do, was a 6/110 Detroit head, the boss was really impressed when I showed him that, he never tried that.. Dave in Bellingham, Wa

Storm Vulcan Block Master is a fine machine. Used one many times but don’t own one now. I mill blocks and heads on my big milling machine but I have to do it in two passes. Works fine but not as nice as your setup.
