Need to mount my chafe strip on the cowl on my "26 speedster. I'm not using the split rivets
in the kit from Lang's because my fuel tank is in and there is no way I'm
removing it.... so I am going to try and use long pop rivets. anybody have
luck with those or have another easy method??? i could use aircraft chafe tape
but that is pricey.....
Thanks again

Here is a link to someone who has done it. I believe the rivets were modified by removing the mandrel dressing the rivet head to look like a split rivet and then reinserting the mandrel. Gold anodized rivets are available. Be aware that large pop rivets take a significant amount of force to break the mandrel. http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/70 ... 1492629976

Dan, being a speedster, you don't have to worry about original fittings. Just find pop rivets long enough and round enough to fill the holes in the cowl. If they pull through the welting, you can add a washer under the rivet head. Aluminium rivets will pull easiest and be less likely to pull the head through the fabric strip.
Hope this helps,
Allan from down under.

Ended up using aluminum pop rivets. Not authentic but highly effective. Job completed. On to the next on the list.
