New rubber valve stem.

This is one of the legendary Olympic burly tubes from the 1960"s
They hold air! So they are worth saving. The stem is 3" long, so fitting one bead of a clincher tyre and then trying to stuff the valve stem down the hole would be high on impossible, especially on a wooden felloe wheel.

I use a clamp to hold BOTH beads in the rim, and lever both beads on at the same time. I had a photo of the clamp in place, but even after editing it on size from smaller than stem photo to an even smaller size, it got the yellow triangle! Go figure.

Allan, if you will send me your balky photo I'll see if I can make it stick.

I agree on mounting tires two beads at a time. If the wheel is on the car, start with the stem hole at the bottom. Put the stem and both beads in place, then lower the car enough to hold them while you lever on the rest of the tire.

Thanks Steve. In your case the weight of the car becomes the clamp. What annoys me is there seems to be no rhyme or trason for the dreaded yellow triangle. I post directly from my phone when I want to include photos. I edit my shots before posting. Some go, some don't.
