Forgot to add the balancing was done with the driving plate attached and after other stuff was done. It balances very well on a static balancer.

Yes Chris it was a back and forth job of removing stock and placing it on the balancer until there was no heavy side and the the brake drum/driving plate assembly came to rest without favoring a position.

No Allen I only took stock off the brake drum. I did have have the driving plate attached of course but there was no place I could take off any appreciable amount from it.

Richard, I asked because sometimes it means less of a hole has to be dug in the drum. If I find that much needs to be removed I juggle the driven plate around to a different position to see if that makes any difference to the out-of-balance before starting o the grinding.

I rotated the driving plate to where there was the least run out of the tailshaft before balancing.
