Luray Swap Meet

Post by dunoon » Sun May 01, 2022 9:42 am

Does anyone know if they are going to have an area where you can bring stuff and put a price on it and they will sell it for ya? Planning on being there on Fri. Thanks

Hi Richard... We are not doing the "manned vendor booth" like we did in the past. However, we have had a lot of request for it this year so it will probably be on the docket for discussion for next year. Thanks, and looking forward to seeing you there!

I hope you all do consider it.
For me for example, it would be a help to cover travel expense's, "Fuel"
I am hoping to come this year but just since I reserved my room gas has went up 20 cents a gallon!
Kinda thinking twice!

Don’t let the fuel price scare you. It is not like you are driving there everyday.
How much will it add to your cost.
Say you are going to use 100 gal x .20 = $20 more.
Just think about us vendors, we are pulling trailers full of parts.

It was an eight hour haul for me last year and well worth it, I left at noon cause I spent way to much money, there was so many nice things that you normally do not see, could of built a couple cars with all the NOS parts there!

I was coveting T parts like the aluminum hogs heads, brass radiator (that I said I would rebuild some day and never will), and other brass parts, etc......then I thought, how many times do we see estate sales selling a crap load of parts. So I decided to sell and use the money towards the next model T rebuild, which is what I am doing now. With that said, I will sell at Luray for the first time. Does anyone want a 1912 gas tank? lol

Dan,you are correct, but it will be costing me around 240 in gas this trip as opposed to my last journey up there costing me less than 125. So it is about double.BUT to be honest if I can get past the extra cost in my mind I will make it. I skipped 2019 because I had just been in 2018.couldn't go in 2020 because of the plandemic, couldn't go in 2021 because of the fuel shortage on the east coast. My dad's health is going down hill and frankly I am wondering if I would make it next year if gas was .50 a gallon because the way his health is going, he is going to trip and break something and will need help .
I am thinking I better go while I can but sheesh, fuel cost! And yea,I towed my trailer to a local swap meet yesterday,200 mile round trip, that extra 2 tons made my Hemi hungry!

I wonder who else is flying in from California? I sure enjoyed it the last time I was there, although it won't be the same without Randall Anderson.

Mack,

Take your fuel costs and divided them between all the years you didn't make it...so your average fuel cost is divided by 3 years you didn't go so $240 divided by 3 equals $80 per year! see cheap isn't it.

It just makes no sense to me how grown men piss and moan about the price of gas or shipping as a deal breaker of the most affordable antique car there is..., then to top that off, "Why are these parts not being made anymore?"!

Hank,I see your point, but budgets do exist.
A man has to live within his means.Parakeet, you make a good point as well.
I am headed that way thursday to enjoy the swap meet friday morning and head home that evening.
I just decided It may be some more serious reason next year that prevents me from going.
In the mean time,I have mowed 1 yard and will be doing 3 more before thursday morning to help cover trip cost.extra over what I had saved up. would like to find a repairable right front fender for 17-25. repairable as in rougher than most folks like as I don't mind a little work,

Well I made it home safe, 650 mile round trip.It was a bit less than expected as the gps sent me different than the computer. 170 or so for fuel.Made out pretty good on the room for thursday night to.I had stopped at the rest stop on I81 and found a coupon book. Days inn at new Market was 59 bucks for the night and i was put in a freshly refurbished room to.
I found me some nice white wall 21 inch tires! I am so tickled with them, all match! They WILL be on my speedster project! then I can put my others back on the pickup. I just aint a black wall tire person.

Friday started with rain, but cleared all day for great swap, lots of T parts, vendors, buyers, super event.

Fri evening the VFW provided fried chicken dinner and fixin for all, likely over 80 folks enjoyed!

Today, swap ended at noon, some good last loading deals….here are some pics!

New gas tanks! From Kevin Prus.

This locally owned 1915 was re-topped and re-upholstered and last run in 1959, then stored in a basement since. Was auctioned off Friday in Luray, brought to the swap and instantly resold..a real nice original low miles brass T. Was a treat to inspect one of these forgotten Fords!

Despite the record high diesel prices, had a good time at Luray.
Great place for a Swap meet, great people too.
VFW did a super job!!!!
Always feel welcome at this meet. Not like locals are doing you favor by taking your money.

If any of you have not gone to this meet plan to attend next year.
Many things to do besides swapping.

The local chapter knows how to run a great meet.
Everyone come out next year and enjoy and support this meet.

Thanks again for a GREAT time.

Great swap meet ! Never meet a nicer bunch of "car folks" as you will at this meet. High gas prices, and a little rain didn't keep many away. Plan on going next year if you haven't been.

Yea, every one involved with that swap meet knows what's going and how to run it to benefit everyone.I had fun, found the few things I was looking for except a high radiator, but I am not working on the c cab project for a couple years at least so no biggie.
Oh did I say i was tickled with my White Wall Tires!?? I sat in the shop yesterday and just gawked at them as I never thought in a 100 years I would be able to afford a MATCHING SET! :D

I sure like the look of those Kevin Prus gasoline tanks! I bought one from him a few months back, and really like the look of it and solid feel. I haven't put gasoline in it yet, no manifold or carburetor in place yet. But the tank is installed and ready to go.

And the swap meet looks great!

I flew in from Los Angeles. The reason is, it reminds me of the way swap meets were when I was a teen. The only difference is there isn't the amount of good stuff there used to be. The best part was visiting with all the people I've met over the years. Luray is a great little town too. If you haven't tried Dan's Steak house up on the hill just out of town, you are missing a good place to have dinner.
