I am painting my 1912 commercial roadster dark blue with black fenders. Were the open door sill moldings painted blue or black? What about the hood former, the hood shelves and rear sear riser molding that curves up from the floorboard to the top of the platform the rear seat sits on. The car won't be pin striped.

Richard,
I believe that fenders as well as the body would have been midnight blue. Sills and everything except the chassis.

Thank you Keith, I know you did your research on your car. I admit struggling with my decision to paint the fenders black. My 1910 is dark green and black and I liked that look. Russ's car although a13 is blue and black so I decided to go that way after his helpful message to me.
I am still wondering whether to paint the sill molding and hoodformer black. My 1910 car is black in these areas. Photos of different 1912 roadsters I've seen are mixed.

Richard,
Keith is has it right, the 1912s were overall dark blue except the chassis. Grey body striping.
From seeing an original condition 1910 as well, I think the sills would be black, while the rest of the body molding is body color.
You're so close at this point, why not paint the fenders blue like they originally were? It won't cost any more than painting them black, and will save you the cost of redoing them in the future. They will look good, too.

Good advice. Once problem. The black is already purchased and being a custom color, can't be returned. Thinking on it, there shouldn't be much contrast as the blue is very dark. I'll probably stick with black on the fenders, splash and running boards, the hood former and front seat sill The rear section, I'll paint all blue. If I don't like the black, I paint over these items in blue. I'm using a black sealer on all parts so painting blue over back on these items won't produce a color noticeably different that the body blue.
