Help review car data: 1926 Model T Runabout

Post by Flivver » Mon May 23, 2022 9:59 am

I defer to the profound knowledge of this group. I am attempting to correctly summarise the history of my 1926 Runabout. A few pics at the end of the data. Please review my data summary, and please suggest corrections/additions. Thanks for the help!

1926 Ford Model T Runabout

Built in River Rouge factory, Detroit Michigan in March 1926 SN 13374606
USD $360 includes:
Electric starter
Balloon tires
Nickle chrome radiator surround and headlight bezels
Driver's side door

Extra cost factory options:
Wire wheels
Spare wheel and tire, rear mount

Period accessories:
Moto meter with gull wings
Running board Step plates
Stop light (brake light)
New Day bakelite timer
Spare tire cover

Modern improvements:
Master battery relay
Removable steering wheel mechanism
Kevlar transmission bands

Colour is Ford Channel Green. Although many models of T were sold in this colour, the Runabout was not, leading to suspicion that this car was either special ordered this colour from the factory, or was originally a pickup truck and has had the bed replaced with a turtle-deck. There are no clues indicating this car was ever any other colour.

This car is very original. It has its original motor, although it has been rebuilt. It was repainted channel green at sometime, many many years ago. Electrics remain 6V, including wooden mechanical ignition buzz coils.

Good suggestion. I'll go with Nickle: it sounds more antique :)

What does it say on the radiator shell under the Ford impression? Made in Canada or Made in USA?
That will tell you whether it is a Canadian car. There are some differences that others would know better than I.
I don't believe the color is original. The standard color was Black, however the 1927 models did come in several colors.

This is a USA made car. Brought to Canada from Wisconsin.

I don't think green was standard on '26-27 roadsters. A good number of pickups were originally "commercial green".
The nickle headlight rims were standard; the nickle radiator shell was optional on open cars. I believe that vehicles originally equipped with wire wheels came with 5 wheels and 4 tires. In the case of later demountable rim wood wheels, I think you got 4 wheels, 4 tires, and 5 rims. I'm not sure about non-demountables, if they were available that late. I'd guess in that case you'd get 4 wheels and 4 tires, and a spare wheel, tire, and carrier would be extra cost. A lot of the late Ts were probably gussied-up by dealers, and a lot of people probably opted to exchange wood wheels for wire wheels, and many probably had a spare wheel and tire or two in the shed at home. Most Ts probably had at least a few added accessories, whether Ford produced or sourced from the huge army of aftermarket suppliers.
