How do I do a replacement key?

I am headed down to California to pick up my new 22 pickup and there is a chance that the key is missing. I see that I can get replacement keys, but I don’t know how to do that if I don’t know the number. Is it stamped on the switch somewhere?

This would not be an issue if the freight company in Tacoma did not require the key to ship it to Alaska, even though it is going as a non operating vehicle (since no one knows how to drive a T).

The key number should be on the cylinder head, but it may be hard to read. You could also get a set of dealer keys. There are 4 of them and one of them will work on your pickup.

They probably think they need the key to unlock the steering column.

Just in case... David means the lock cylinder head. Not the one on the engine. :)

This is where the number should be found.

Big help in reducing risk of damage if you can be there for pick up and drop off. They will not know how to find neutral, or setting the hand brake.

Thanks for the help. It looks like the keys are there. I will be there when they load and unload. I will have some time to make sure there is a free neutral before dropping it off.

The odds are quite high that the key cylinder is broken anyway.

The pot metal cylinder absorbs water and expands with age.

The top and bottom of the key slot is usually broken or missing, as it appears to be in the above photo.

Buy as master set of three keys. One of these keys will fit a certain group of original locks, collectively any original 1919-27 ignition lock that is in working order can be turned on =with one of the three keys.

That’s all I need, the shipping company is slightly more stringent…
