Gas Line Pictures

Post by CatGuy » Tue May 24, 2022 10:18 am

Can someone post a picture or two of the gas line routing for a 1926 Roadster? Mine came to me with a stock sediment bowl, but rubber hose to the stock carb. I suppose it's not a dire need, but I'd like to change it to stock.

Forgot to say that this is the Holley NH carb.

I looked this part up at the Benson Ford Research Center and sketched the shape and dimensions from the drawing. I made my fuel line out of automotive brake line. Do not use soft copper tubing.

I second what Jeff said....also avoid the Copper-Nickel lines - I've seen them do this where they go into the carb or sediment bowl.

Thanks! That's what I was needing. I'll definitely be going with steel! Also.....does anyone still use the felt seal or have you gone to the neoprene one?

The neoprene gaskets are my preference along with the standard fittings.

I could not get the neoprene to work and went back the felt seals.

The extra shut off valve that most use can be placed either at the carburetor or at the sediment bowl

Humblej .... 1/4" neoprene gas line rubber has thicker walls compared to 1/4" neoprene rubber vacuum tubing. , so will not be acceptable for a sealing packing.....Pictured below is the neoprene vacuum tubing, ..... when cut to size fits snug on metal gas line, and leakless after retaining nut is tightened.

to add to what Bob said, it takes very little tightening to get a leak free seal. Additionally, the rubber expands to grab threads and it acts as a very nice deterrent to accidental unscrewing. Excessive tightening will act like a very effective swage and can "neck down" the tubing on some tubes depending on the alloy used.

also note the use of the correct elbow and nut in the pictures!! This is very important! You cannot buy this fitting or nut from a hardware store...it can only be purchased from a "T" guy or a supplier. The correct fitting will have 1/8 NPT on one end and the correct 1/2-18 end on the other end (not a compression-ferrule fitting). This fact cannot be stressed enough.
