My T needs a new battery. Unfortunately it is on an island in Lake Erie and I am
unable to take measurements of the existing battery at this time.
If possible could someone give me a model number or type for replacement.

Thank you

John

The standard battery size is a group 1. I live near Sandusky, ohio but am currently in Cincinnati so I cannot measure the size. You will have to return to mainland to get a new battery. I have had good luck with NAPA.
I believe I saw Delco 6v batteries in Sam's club. The TSC stores also have them. They are open on Sundays.

Just curious, which island are you on, like put in bay or Kelley's island.

If you need help I will be back in Sandusky on late Sunday afternoon.

Just remembered to remind you that golf cart batteries are too large to fit the holder.

Group 1 6V battery. I usually find them stocked at Auto Zone. I have also ordered them at NAPA and waited a day or so. Anyway, if you need to leave the island, you might want to check with the retailer before you leave so they can have one ready for you.

Group 1 6v is the standard size battery for Model T’s and lots of old cars, tractors and equipment. TSC, Auto Zone, Atwood’s and larger Auto parts stores has them or can get them.
The younger sales folks sometimes don’t know what you mean when you ask them about a Group 1 6V battery. Some think it’s a lawnmower battery.

The original Ford batteries were slightly larger than a group 1. You must put a spacer in the bottom of your battery box to bring the group l up to the top of the battery box. Then you need to install spacers front and back, so the battery can't move around. I make those two spacers as high as the original handles on the Ford battery to support the lid.

There was a discussion on this subject just a few days ago https://mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29492
Without some specifics, responses are assuming that your battery box is a standard size Model T 6 volt car battery, GROUP 1 size. (not 12v or a motorcycle)

These are the dimensions for the battery box that Lang's sells.
It does not account for the space from the top of the box and bottom of the lid
Battery box with lid, (has no Ford script).
The inside dimensions are
9" long,
8" high
7-1/4" wide
Diagonal 11.557in

Group 1 Batteries come in different sizes but approximately the same
Traveller Heavy-Duty Battery
Product Length 9-1/8 in
Product Height 9-3/8 in
Product Width 7-1/8 in

Duracell Ultra Flooded 640CCA
Length: 9 in
Height: 8.625in
Width: 6.1825 in

I would expect this to fit but for any of these is how they measure the height - top of the case or top of the caps/posts
Interstate 1-VHD
Length 9 inches
Height 8 3/4 inches
Width 6 15/16 inches

Some choose to use a Optima RedTop 6v diagonally not sure would fit because of its width in the corners of he box
Length (in.) 10.0625
Height (in.) 8.125
Width (in.) 3.625
Diagonal (in) 10.696
