Does anyone have any photos installing a wood kit in a ‘26 roadster? Most of it appears self explanatory, but I am mostly interested in the top rail. I want to know if my body is missing anything to mount the wood.

Did you make your own or purchase a kit?

Here is factory pic from the Body Parts Book. Pretty detailed. The tack strip around the top of the tub is mounted to the tub flange with flat head single slot stove bolts, drilled vertically into the strip, nuts on the inside, bolt heads sunk into the strip.

The original strip was steam bent, and has profile routed on the outside for fitting the fabric of the backrest and top. The plastic replacement is easier as you bend , drill and bolt, using a hot air gun. Fitting wood strip takes a lot of shaping.

The rear backrest supports are fastened to the tack strip with the same stove bolts used, you will note the holes in the tub flange where they go. The rest of the wood is fastened the same way.





This is a '24 original wood tack strip, same profile as the '26-'27 for the upholstery and top material to recess above the base of the strip, then a nice flat area of body metal and wood is presented for the hidem welt. Plastic shown, repro wood, and original wood.

Thank you for that, so it seems the wood strips bolts directly to the body with no other metal bits?

Mine is missing, there are holes in the body where it looks like the strips would bolt, also someone drew marks with a sharpie beside the holes as it to locate them when hidden with wood during install.

I have several pieces of new wood that I found in the trunk, but they appear to be various pieces of the kit, less the tack strip.
