I lost the small nut that holds the plug wire on the plug.. I tried a 6/32 nut but was the wrong thread. Is there a nut that can be gotten without buying a plug?

Home Depot carries the top nut for the spark plugs I don’t remember the size of hand sorry but someone will chime it

In the back of my infertal mind, I recall the same issue from many years ago. The plug top thread was metric.
The solution was to get brass thumb nuts & re tap to the plug's metric thread.

Autolite and MotorCraft use 7mm. Champions ate 8/32. Langs has the Knurled type in both sizes.

Ace hardware has a good selection of various brass nuts.

I've got a good selection of nuts that was in a box. Let me take a look tomorrow and see what I have. If I find any I'll send what I have. Don't worry about the shipping. I have some stamps I need to burn up.

there are a number of different threads on different "T" plugs, and a number of different versions of nuts, PLUS there are some nuts advertised as being correct and while they fit, they are far from correct!

show the plug, and the nut that fits (that is missing) and you'll get more certain help

Many of my Champion brass top as well as the new ribbed plugs are #8-32 thd. Some of the Champion X plugs are smaller, #6-40 (I revise this to #5-40 per Steve's post below). I have some 14mm plugs with #8-36 thds.
What make are your plugs?

If you were closer, I would tap the thread on another nut you the thread size you need. Like previously said there is no std for this application.

Thanks for that Steve. I rechecked 6 of them and they are #5s rather than # 6 as I had stated. You may want to recheck yours. Mine are all 40 threads per inch. Still, they are "made of unobtainium". Standard # 5 taps are 40 tpi and 44 tpi.

Do you have some idea as to approximately where it was lost? My point in asking, is that many of us have "heard of other people" who have dropped the nut into an open spark plug hole. If so, it's gotta come out...

I know someone who has done that. Since its brass, I tried to vacuum it out without success (wet/dry vac with no bag). Going to pull the head.

If I may, here are 2 cuts from the Lang's site. They do offer the #5-40 as well as the #8-32 if these are still available. They seem to be made out of Brass rather than unobtanium as we had thought.

Mein gott! $6.24 a nut! I believe in supporting our parts dealers, but I'll spend the money on things I can't get elsewhere, especially when elsewhere is a fraction of the price (71¢ on Amazon). I love Lang's, but not for plug nuts.

I feel your pain Steve. $24.95 hurts me more than $6.24 a nut. I might make some if I needed but I'm not using those plugs in anything right now.
Still, I was delighted to see they weren't impossible to find. I wouldn't make them for less money to sell.

Not sure what you found on AMAZON but not all knurled nuts are alike. Lang's is selling original style nuts for those seeking originality. --
For the rest who are looking just for a functional solution and are content function over form there are other choices.
