Re: Towns, people and things along the road.
These are my favorite kind of photos, showing so much "side detail" of the times.
The first photo, ... that road can be driven just as it looks in the photo today, from
Pendleton to about 10 miles out of LaGrande, with jsut a couple short jogs, where the
modern Interstate crosses the old road. It is an awesome time capsule, that takes you
over the Blue Mountains, a distance of some 60 miles, like it is still 1920.
The shot of the Columbia River and Big Bend Highway has me baffled. I suspect it
is where the Columbia goes up into Canada, and is perhaps under dam water today ???
Awesome stuff, Tom. You made my night ! Cut yerself an extra slice of raisin pie !

I too love these time machine photos. The photo of Highway 60 in Arizona looks just the same, the same track out of the canyon north of globe Arizona heading toward Show Low arizona. Except now, there's always going to be like 12 motorhomes in front of you going up or down, all going about four miles an hour. And semis behind you, all riding your bumper!

In that 14th picture, the ladies are different heights, but their skirts are the same distance above the ground! They must have had an ordinance dictating that length!
