I was thinking about making up a cap with a grease fitting for the steering bracket to be able to force the grease around the steering shaft and bushing.
Anybody try this before?

That’s such a good idea that the vendors sell them if you don’t want to make one yourself.

Yes; I’ve made them for all my “cup grease” fittings on all my T s. Just takes 2 different tap sizes. I placed a full grease cup in a vice grip and turned down the cup all the way and only had 2” of grease stream. Then I pumped one grease gun pump into a zirk screwed into another grease cup and was rewarded with 7” stream of grease. Much more efficient.

They are a good idea.
I still enjoy filling the cup and screwing it down. Call me old fashioned.

When you mass grease 8 cars, 2 tractors, 3 trailers and 2 riding lawnmowers in one session….

I've been filling the open fitting and pushing the grease in with my thumb. Easy but takes too long. Got other stuff to get done most of the time.

I don't think I would want one on the steering box. One reason it would look very noticeable. The other is if you have too much grease in the steering box, it will bleed out and get on your lap.

Sorry Norm, I meant the steering bracket at the frame, at the bottom of the shaft by the pitman arm. The bracket with the long brass bushing I just replaced....

"I've been filling the open fitting and pushing the grease in with my thumb". ////// I use a putty knife to fill the screw-on cap with grease, then I thread it back on the base and give it a turn or two or three as needed. The flat knife makes it easier to get the cap full of grease with little or no air pockets.

I put one in my U-joint grease cup. Larry pointed out that it's not original, but Arthur Itis overruled him.

Then there are these if you choose to replace press-in oilers with zerks

Steve, 8 years ago I tried one of those in that exact spot. I found that I couldn't get the threads to start. So I never put it in. The old one got reinstalled. Too much "donkey" pain to be bothered at the time. Convenience became a project....
