1913 Holley S Carb Valve Seat Differences. Anyone know why?

So I found another Holley S carb in the house, so I have 3 now to look at.
I cracked open all 3 to see whats going on inside.
2 have the same valve seat, and the third one has a completely different one.
As you can see, it has a guide for the valve needle, whereas the others do not.
Is this a later addon, or is this an earlier version?

I have three 1913 Holley S carburetors, as well. All have the valve needle guide.

Thats interesting. Some pics I found on the forum (new and old), don't show the needle guide. I wonder if it's an earlier design?

I think ill keep the needle guide carb for the 13 runabout.

I have two of these carbs as spares...Both of them have the needle guide, and I think the one on my car has it too...It looks like the guide is a separate part and has four punch marks spaced around the perimeter to hold it in place...perhaps yours were removed or came loose and fell out...the punch marks are easier to see on mine if the Strangling Tube (the throat that is held in place by the big spring clip) is removed.

I think those get broken when people try to remove them? I don’t know what else would cause them to break unless the pot metal finally gave way to vibration. I’ve made several of those from a roll pin and a fender washer then it swaged right back in by expanding the 4 slots with a small screwdriver.

Some of those have a restricted fuel inlet while others are straight through to the seat opening.
