My '26 RPU has nearly new seat upholstery that was done for, or by, the previous owner. It's terribly uncomfortable. It just lacks any decent amount of padding between the vinyl and the springs. I pulled the seat back section apart and was able to add poly batting. That turned out great. The bottom, however, has not got enough side material to allow me to get any more padding into it. I'm going to ditch that cover and have Clastique make me a new one. My question is, what method of securing the cover is favored? I've seen a cinch rope sewn into some, hog rings on others and Mike at Clastique asked if I plan to channel mount it or hog ring it. What's the preferred method?

If the channel in the seat spring for the rope is open you can use the rope cinch. If it is not , you must use the hog rings.

You can re-open the channel--it will take some time and probably a few scratched knuckles!

I just had mine done. I like this way better than the hog rings that use to be there.

You have to compress the seat spring. You must use a piece of 3/4" plywood to do this that overhangs the cushion enough to get a bolt in each corner. Then, for the bottom of the cushion 2X4's work good. Open up the channel enough for the skirts to drop in. I sewed welt all the way around the skirt to help hold it in the channel. I don't remember if Ford did that or not, but it sure helps.

Dave Hjort, I really like the way yours turned out with that extra wide belly band. Very nice. So, the plywood and 2x4's are drawn together with some all-thread to end up with a tight seat cover. Thanks for that tip. Never messed with upholstery much before.

The big problem with the way shown in the pictures or even hog rings is that over time the upholstery will wear where it sits on the metal seat frame. With the channel it is metal against metal and will not wear.
