[image][/image]I know that there's lots of knowledgeable guys both Ford and brand X on this forum so maybe someone can help me. I'm helping a friend with his 1908 Haynes Model S Runabout. 4 cylinder T head engine, selective gear transmission, Older restoration but still very nice. There's a few incorrect things on the car and we're trying to straighten that out and get it running. The challenge is trying to get past the wrong information that came with the car when he purchased it a couple of years ago. All the info so far seems to come from the guy that restored it many years ago and some of it is incorrect, even the year and model! (was). Everyone that has owned the car has assumed that what they were told or have read (Written by the guy that hauled it in and restored it) was correct and left it at that. A little Haynes history: The Haynes factory burned to the ground in 1911 and all history burned with it so finding anything prior to 1911 on a Haynes difficult, and especially on the smaller model S. I've seen era advertisements showing the larger models but have almost nothing on the S. Anything would be helpful, picture, print.....any help? Anything please.

You might contact the Elwood Haynes museum in Kokomo Indiana. They might have pictures or info or know someone who does.

You might try to search Google books. I did this search for Haynes “Model S.” This is a 1907 model I believe, and I don’t know enough to even be dangerous.

I am sure you have already looked in the places I would look but I will watch for anything on it. I did some looking and it was fun to see what is out there instead. It was surprising to me that it wasn't with the Models W and U in the Handbook of Gasoline Automobiles. This is a clever group of folks here and hopefully some will find more.

Just for the fun, I searched The royal Librarys scans of old newspaper to see if by any chance someone back in the time imported and marketed Haynes automobiles.
Unfortunately no hits.

Ed, this doesn't help you one bit but I thought it might be a source of amusement or at least interesting in the coincidental nature of things. I've started watching the Ken Burns documentary series on the history of baseball again and look what shows up on the 1910-1920 episode.
