1926 one ton height?

Post by travis_towle » Thu Apr 18, 2019 1:14 pm

I am getting ready to frame my new addition and need to know if a 1926 one ton will make it into a 8’ x 8’ door. My original plans called for a 9’ tall door but they look crazy expensive ~ would be better to drop the height to 8’.

My 23 with Martin Parry wood cab is 7ft-4in tall. Fits in 8ft door fine.

My Ford steel cab TT goes thru my 8’ doors just fine. I’ve had several different TT’s in here over the years and they all clear just fine.

If you are going to be parking anything modern in that bay, the door really needs to be nine feet wide to clear mirrors! My late father had 8' doors and I hate to think how many mirrors I got for him. I had to be very careful getting my olds bravada in and out, and it's a smaller suv. Modern pickup trucks might not fit at all!

Front additions normal car garage doors are 9x7.

My (museums) addition doors will only be for my model t fords. Nothing modern will ever touch that area while I’m alive. Those doors are locked in concrete now at 8’ wide as of yesterday- so only the height can be changed to 8’ from the planned 9’. It is being done as a strictly museum style home addition with 12’ ceilings for my antique gas pump, and model t collection.

OEM Ford closed cab truck is 84" from floor to highest point, at the back of the cab roof.

For those taking notes 12"=1'. 12x7=84. So, you would need something taller than a seven
foot opening to get a TT closed cab through the hole. Now, remember, framing a hole at an
opening of "X", we must allow for trim/s and door as well. Not all doors clear the entire hole.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

Have one tall door

Have one tall door at least 9 feet.

Pick a door location where the interior would be used as floor space most of the time - you would only use that door infrequently for taller vehicles.

That door could be a cheaper style door.
