Kicking around adding bumpers on my 1926 Touring. What are your thoughts? Pros? Cons? Split rears or one-piece?

My initial thoughts are they would be good to prevent damage, obviously....the big reason for bumpers, right? The con is the added length and weight. Also they might be in the way to hand crank, not sure.

On split vs one-piece rears is the split weighs a little less and don't hang over as much as the one-piece but won't protect the spare.

How about opinions on looks, too.

The front bumper doesn't interfere with hand cranking. I went with split on the back of my Tudor to allow easy access to the spare. However I don't know if the solid rear would prevent access to the spare. The extra weight is minimal and I like the "protection" factor.

We have full length bumpers front and rear on our '26 Touring car that came with the car. Its a "Sport Touring Car" which at the time was Ford's way of gussying them up, bumpers, nickel radiator shroud, etc. The front doesn't interfere with cranking, and the rear doesn't interfere with accessing the spare. I don't think the added weight is perceptible.

I have an original set of rear brackets for the full bars, if interested.

Added Ford bumpers to the '27 and like them, hardly any weight add to be noticed. Does add length to the T in the garage for storage, but otherwise like the bumpers. Hand crank is easy.

Removing the rear spare tire is very easy too.

Mine is in that as found shape 26 Touring and has nickel radiator, hub caps and headlight rims. Probably will get the new stainless bumpers. I have some stuff that I had to go new on so it's developing a patchwork look I kinda like. Hood shelves and apron are new; so are the floors and mats..

Sometime soon I need to figure out posting pics.

I haven't had a T with bumpers and don't want any. When I work on other folks' cars which have them, they certainly are in the way!

That was another concern of mine. I just dropped a wad of cash for a nice Berg's radiator and am thinking bumpers are a good idea as I learn to drive the T. Since I have 9 cars of various years, I'm used to cars with much more limited access than the T.

By the way, I used to live in Greenwood, Rogers and Fayetteville. Graduated UofA with a BSEE. Go Hogs!

I have 4 T's and none of them have bumpers. I like it that way & feel bumpers just get in the way.
Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Too many folks could tell by the bumpers that my ‘26 touring was a model A!
Got rid of them.

Still think bumpers are a good thing to have, helps the driver know when to stop when backing up

Am so use to the Back-up Camera on my F150, these little bars are nice on my Ford! Was only a wood stick, but could have been an steel pole

I have them on my 26 touring. No problem with use of the crank or spare tire. They do come a bit close to the front tires on the end and if you hit something very hard and bend the bracket would stop the wheel from turning.

I don;t have them of the 26 roadster or 22 roadster and one time another T came too close at a stop sign and bent my rear fender. This would probably have been avoided if I had bumpers.

Will do! Many years ago, I used to work as a waiter at Jose's.....back in the mid 80s

Decisions, decisions....this one's a hard one. It helps that they are a Ford option for my year, frame is pre drilled. Also helps that I have the nickel hardware already (rims, caps and radiator shell) for that one Ford trim option to include the bumpers.

That's funny rat thar, I don't care who ya are!

This was my fathers T when he was at Fort Sheridan. The bumpers may have the unwanted effect of attracting extra attention.
