Has anyone used a 2 post hoist on a model T? What are the difficulties in using it if any? Thanks

Most will require extensions/alterations to the pickup points to be able to lift the car on the frame. I use my mate's hoist with two long lengths of 4 x 3" hardwood to pick up the front and rear axles. Others will have different ideas.

you need extensions to pick up a T
I can give you part numbers on extensions if you have model number of hoist
I sell hoist and parts

The reason I have a four post lift is because I didn't feel comfortable with long extensions. Just my opinion.

How about a one-post?

Excellent lift photos and info! I've often wondered how to pick up a T on a lift also Lester.
An old work friend welded 4 floor extensions on his two post lift as he wasn't real sure about the 8 bolts to hold a vehicle safely.
Odd/off question: How can an old one post hydraulic lift be removed from a floor?
Love the stand-up stabilizers under one of those cars with another sitting close by on the other lift.
Must've been squashed under something in a past life. ;)

Here is my Model A on my Two Post lift. Simple extensions available from the lift maker make it easy.

I considered Craig's channel solution before opting for the wooden beams under the axles. They give me access to the wheels, brakes etc.

I'm with you Dick! Plus, a 2-poster absolutely must be very well secured to the floor. 4 posters of course are far more stable by design. The ramps really don't get in the way that much as some would think. When I run my F150 on it I also stick 4x4's under each ramp end at the post just for a little extra security

Allan,
That's not mine I found the pic on the forum. I have a 8' ceiling the only hoist I have is a Loadstar on a 20' I beam for pulling engines.

I spent my career working with vehicles on hoists. I wouldn’t recommend a two post for a Model T. I drive on would give you all the access you need and be way gentler on your car. Also better for storage when your T reproduces.

Not to be labor the point but I also use the four post lift for other cars and trucks. I have a Marmon that would require extensions to clear the running boards. I have worked under a car without extensions and working on the front of the car caused movement. Was it dangerous? I don't think so. If I used 12 inch extensions under the Marmon I would be scared.

My personal opinion for what it is worth. I purchased an Advantage 4 post lift. It came with a rolling platform that can support 4500 pounds using a bottle Jack if you want to lift your car off the ramps to do axle work. I opted for an optional air over hydraulic scissor lift that rolls on the same tracks. It can lift 4500 pounds, has adjustable reach and height options, and has locks so it can settle down by accident. Best money I have ever spent for being able to really enable/enjoy wrenching and maintaining a T.

Correction: the scissor lift has locks so it “cannot” inadvertently settle down.
