With fuel prices as well as other expenses I had decided to skip Hershey this year. However, following the lead of forum “nomads” such as Dean Yoder and Steve Jelf, as well as others, I decided to take advantage of my hybrid car and do Hershey “on a budget.” Usually I pull a trailer with one or two cars, staying in hotels on the way to and from, and while at Hershey.
Instead, I copied a few YouTube Toyota Prius conversions, making an RV-Prius.
Long story long, Hershey, here I come….
Des Moines IA, as we speak, er, type….
Budget:
2400 miles round trip,
50 mpg, $4.40/gal. - $211.20
Hotels - $0.00
Buying old Ford parts I don’t need, and my kids will try to price on my estate sale - Priceless….

Re: Hershey “on the cheap”
Geez. 2400 miles. And I’m adverse to do 300 round trip. Too much for one day anymore. The last time, about 5 years ago, I hit traffic on the way home. Nothing like parking on the highway 75 miles from the house. I think it soured me as we regularly did Hershey and Carlyle every year.
Forget everything you thought you knew.

If you camped overnight on a Minneapolis street in your Prius, the catalytic converter would be gone in the morning.

Rob, don’t forget to leave a 1/4 inch of window down so you won’t suffocate. I slept in my vw bug off the highway many years ago and the highway patrol knocked on my window at three in the morning. When I opened the window there was a sucking sound. A nother hour or two and I would have suffocated in my sleep. Just thinking.
