These photos are of the inner tube that came in the spare tire on my ‘24 touring. The tube itself passes the water bubble test but the stem is split near the base. I see two different styles of replacement stems from Snyder’s and Lang’s, one for wood wheels, and another for wire wheels. Which one, if either, would work for a ‘24 Touring with demountable rims on wheels with steel fellows?



Side question: is the “9221” printed to the right of the Firestone logo perhaps a date code?

The difference is the wire wheel stems are shorter than the wood wheel stems. Wood wheel stems are the same for demountable and for non-demountable rims. The Langs stems I think are glue-on, the OEM Ford are clamp-on. I just put an original Schrader clamp-on metal stem on an old inner tube that had a broken rubber stem just to try it, it was easy and took about 10 minutes. If you fly up to Charlevoix CVX, I will help you put one of my spare clamp-on metal stems on your tube.

There are so many originals that new ones would be a sure money-loser. I believe all the new metal stems available now come with tubes attached to them.

Snyders sells clamp-on stems but they are the short ones for wire wheels and will be too short for wood wheels. Once you know what to look for you will see them everywhere where rust is sold.

Steve, I doubt that that black rubber stem is the original. It is more likely a replacement for a brass stem. I have two like that in use in my T's, and they have the thicker brass stems.
