I have been using the Chaffin reground 270 or touring cam in both of my cars. Very satisfied.

John, from your experience do you find that the 280 gives you more low end torque than a stock cam?…. Where I live is quite hilly in Pennsylvania,
And I’m looking for input on it would help my 27 tutor climb these big hills….

Are these reviews of various camshafts in engines were they the only modification made? Low/high/Z head, pistons, valves, carb, etc?

Frank, the Tulsa club website has reviews of heads and cams, if I'm not mistaken.

Frank the 290 is in a 27 roadster with HC pistons, SS valves, stock head & Stromberg OF rebuild (RIP HOWE). If they were available at the time I’d have added a 7.5 DMc timing gear. The 280 style were in early Ts, reg. Aluminum pistons, SS valves with seats & 5 balls.
Thanks, was exactly what I was getting at. Its not just 1 modification that influences a performance improvement.

More compression will get you more power across the engine's entire speed range. More cam lift and duration will get you better power at higher engine speeds. A stock or mild performance cam will generally give better low speed power and response.
