I decided to use new flaps as the ones I'm taking out of the old tires are hard. I think they have been in there since 1974 when the tires were put on. I haven't tried Lang's yet but everyone see to be out of stock. Has anyone bought any lately. My car has 4.40/4.50 21 wood wheels. on a 26 touring.

Have you tried Coker Tire or Summit Racing? How about Speedway Motors?

Line the inside of the wheel with Trex tape ( a type of gorilla tape) and fuggedabout it. I've never used flaps on demountables and non-demountables with no troubles. On over 2 dozen wheels over the years. This argument of course is as hot and volital as MMO and water pumps, but it's my feeling anyway. Do as you wish and what makes you sleep better!

I used an old inner tube piece to cover the gap in the split rims. Has worked for many miles.

This is your lucky day. Now you can make some rim liners and save a couple of hundred bucks. I cut mine front 13" inner tubes rescued from a tyre shop bin, or you can use 20" bicycle tubes. New ones will be far cheaper than flaps.

I restored a set of Budd wire wheels for my '14 roadster. I had the same issue flaps or no flaps. soooo,

I used the rubberized spray that is a water proofing product. This is the stuff the guy sprays on a screen door and makes a floating boat out of it. I used a liberal coating and let it dry for a couple of days.

I mounted the tubes and tires and ran all summer with no problems. I do however keep 60 pounds of air pressure and so far no loss of air pressure.

Unlike the 23” clincher demountable rims, the 21” split demountable rims do not use thin rim liners. I always ran flaps in my 21” chebby disk wheels, the straight side tires don’t protect the tube from the rim, and so the tube is subject to whatever imperfections and movement is present at the rim seam.
