Turbo 400 new hub removal issue

Anyone had this trouble removing a New Turbo type clutch hub? The material is cast steel unlike Ford forging, and is stuck . When using the puller, the hole broke away, being soft cast steel.

Any suggestions now on how to remove?

I'd say you're pretty much left with a drill and a sharp cold chisel. I'd drill down through the boss immediately adjacent to the key and then split the thing.

How unfortunate. I was not aware of this design defect.
Go back to the original FORD clutch hub & use the modified th400 disks.
Wont be an issue. A full bank of teeth isnt necessary for th400 disks wear or function wise.

It could have been fitted with Loctite, that will require heating up to get it to let go.

Try grabbing 2 of the holes in the web with a gear puller. You've essentially got 3 tries to pull it off if those holes tear out too.

Hi Dan,
This is where the old 3 jaw puller and a grinder come in handy if you can get the jaws in threw the holes. That's if you intend on using the hub
again. If you are not intending to use the hub then Scotts drill and split will be the way to go but you still may need to pull it off.
Craig.

That isn't a Watt's clutch hub, it is a turbo 400 type. Watt's clutches are completely a different animal that are only made to use the original type parts.

Weld a small strap across the broken out section so you can use your hub puller. Then heat up the hub with a torch and retry pulling it off.

Got the thing off, the cast steel was too hard to drill away, so used a torch and carefully cut away the metal at the key way slot. Then the hub could be pulled up and off.

Replaced with an earlier Ford forged clutch drum part, that accepts the Jack Rabbit discs, modified Turbo 400 with tabs removed at sections around the disc, those perform good with Ford parts.

Good job.
Here's a hint. Check the diameter of the clutch hub in 6 places. Sometimes, because of the tight fit on the center shaft, the edges will "taco" out of round, from a previous pull, enough for the clutches to go in tight.
