Running Rich

Took the T out for a short test drive last night after stuffing the engine back in after pulling it, due to finding Brake Lug Shoe parts in the oil. I now have a few additional punch list items Has a bad exhaust leak at the exhaust nut. Running rich, and the carb is now leaking fuel. Have to fine adjust the peddles and clutch lever bolt, and a few other simple punch list items.
Regarding running rich! It has always liked running rich, but it smells even richer now. The engine is basically stock, was rebuilt at some point with Aluminum pistons, with the correct Holley carb. The spark plugs have a some carbon build up, but not bad, I am running modern champion 25's. Thinking I will look at how to clean them, then check the gap. Any tips on what can be done to improve the fuel air mix?
Here is a link to the reason the engine was pulled: Metal Fragments in Oil Link - viewtopic.php?p=246110&sid=b0166deacb3b ... c2#p246110
