Lots of New Model T Owners on Facebook - Send Them Here

It is heartening to see the number of new Model T owners showing up on Facebook. It is apparent that many of them are "flying blind", they don't know that a Ford Model T service manual exists or that the MTFCA and MTFCI exist!

For the few here who "do" Facebook, if you decide to comment or help one of these new owners, please let them know about these resources!

So true, Mark. I don't"do" facebook. I frequently encounter younger people interested in the model T. I tell them of the model T club and the vast experience and information available. There just has to be a connection.

I don’t use Facebook that much if any. I heard from the forum that there is a Model T presence over there but that’s been a while ago. I’ll bet there are MTFCA members over there and also use this site. Some classic car groups have their own site and have a Facebook presence. But the newer and younger owners that try to have a correct T and not a hot rod should be encouraged to use this site since we do try to keep Model T’s in mostly their original form.

I have lots of reasons to really dislike Facebook! Some of them going back to the earliest days of the internet! High on the list is the fact that my wife keeps going back to it. Their security is abominable! Her accounts have been hacked numerous times! Her cousins' accounts have been hacked several times that we know about. She gets huge amounts of spam likely because of Facebook and their hacks. My email address has been posted in open forums a hundred times, and she gets ten times as much spam as I do!
I do not like the social media mentality. It is arrogant, hypocritical, and far too self-centered.

However. All that said, it is the way of the modern world. I have said many times that the antique automobile hobby needs to maintain a significant presence on social media in general, and Facebook (currently?) specifically. That IS where our hobby is most likely to be found by young adults and kids today. People that haven't been so turned off by that mentality should consider following some of it, and giving proper answers to questions where they can. They should when appropriate guide interested people to sites like this one where the dinosaurs hide.

I was an IT professional before they called it "IT". I got sick and tired of dealing with their gamer mentality a very long time ago.
If I want to "shoot asteroids"? I will get an old Atari game and "shoot asteroids". I do NOT want to be "shooting asteroids" when I am online trying to accomplish some work! And THAT is what real "engineering" is all about! Making a system WORK! NOT hiding landmines and magic keys in every web page!

The admitted dinosaur.

This dinosaur will admit to "doing" FB. I've been hacked. I follow a couple of "groups" peculiar to my interest, and they are enjoyably civil. The usual scan is a wasteland of ads and clickbait.

The other day I thought I'd look at the Model T group, and found myself joining it. It's definitely a place where MTFCA members can do a lot of good for T owners struggling in their lack of information. Call it enlightened self interest, promoting the club and its publications should be an easy "sell". So far I find it a good "place".

Hey there Rich B! That place can use some of your wisdom and enlightenment!
At times, I feel that I should be there, trying to help guide the way. But the fact is I burned out on that gamer self-interest too long ago. I get it rubbed in my face almost everyday just in dealing with the so many places we need to deal with daily that my fuse is too short to jump into that particular lion's den.

Yes, there are. I follow two groups, The Model T Ford Club of Facebook, and Model T Ford Owners. There's also an MTFCI page, and pages for some of the regional clubs. Some of the forum regulars are in the FB groups too, and we often steer the new folks here. And yes, there are a LOT of them. Every few days there's somebody who just bought a T, or inherited one, and is looking for basic help. This is one of the places I recommend.
