Mounted a spare tire carrier on my RPU

A Hershey car show find... some period correct fasteners from dad's bolt bin and a warm November afternoon and now the T has a spare tire carrier! Always wanted one, wasn't looking for one, but stumbled on it the first day of Hershey, so I got it. So glad I did. Looks like it was always on the car. I think these add so much to the look of a roadster pickup! I'm happy!!!
Thought you all might enjoy seeing the installed result. The carrier is a little different than you usually see, but works very well. Only need a vintage lock to complete the clapse!

Very nice. You dont have to have it in the bed, now its a truck!

Great find Andrew. It matches your pickup nicely. Had I found it, I'd have shifted the mounting requiring drilling holes in the fender, so I could pick up the running board bolts. I hate drilling Ford parts.

I’m still looking for the “Ultimate” location to store the spare wheel on my Roadster Pickup / Touring Car.
I too won’t drill extra holes to mount brackets similar to that but more importantly most Aussies aren’t in the habit of sliding across and exiting the vehicle on the passengers side. Blocking either access points is annoying to me. Hence, the spare lays in the pick up floor. Have thought about mounting it under the vehicle but never did.
Same issue with the Tourer which we bought so passengers could come for a drive but guess what? They are surrounded by a Tyre, Tools, Fuel Can and Picnic Chairs. Build a Trailer maybe.....

I felt your pain when I got my 27 R/Pu. @ some time the spare was mounted on the tail gate via a roadster spare bracket.
Using the holes already there, I mounted a spare W/W to the bottom of the bed. A "Z" bracket holds the tire about flush with the gate. The center hub bolts to the roadster body frame with 2 studs.

Thanks! I agree it fits nicely. If you look carefully you will see that the fender already had a split in it that's been patched by a cutting off an off-cast fender and four rivets. The running board and apron already had some extra holes in them as well, so a few more, carefully placed of course wasn't a worry for me.

Thank you! I can thank my dad for that. He pulled out several of these bolts from his bolt bin and matched them up with square nuts and lock washers. All of similar vintage. The hope is that none ever know it was a 2022 addition!

When I first got Henrietta the spare was carried loose on the tray. I fashioned this carrier, based on an original blacksmith made item on my 1920 backboard. I offset the cradle forwards. picked up the fender and running board bolts for the mountings. And screwed a couple of footman loops to the tray for the rear strap. All done with used materials some 4 years ago.
