I am wondering if anyone knows just how much of a hill a '16 touring can take.
To the west of me we have a very tall bridge that spans the inter-coastal waterway. They make these bridges tall enough to handle small shipping traffic parallel to the the Gulf of Mexico.

I don't want to attempt this hill and risk getting stuck. It is a two lane and always has traffic.

Has anyone on the forum ever not made a hill?

For me safety and traffic would be my first concern. Going up a hill is one thing and it will be slow. Going down is another.

If your fuel system is clean, and your gas tank is full, you should be able to pull any hill, might need low pedal, but the Ford will do it.

Have been stuck once on a steep hill on tour in Virginia, but was due to poor maintenance. Just before the crest, the T sputtered to a stop, engine dying, had to roll back some and pull on shoulder. Waited some and restarted, sputtering, til turned around and down the hill, T ran just fine down hill! Couldn't understand as had about 3/4 full gas tank!

Investigated later, the filer screen at the potato shutoff was about 1/3 clogged with fine fiber looking debris. Gas tank was old but not rusty. Stuffed seemed like upholstery stuffing, burlap, perhaps from the under side of the seat cushion, and somehow over the years fell in when the cap was removed? That amount of clog allowed gas to flow freely, until the engine demanded more at full speed to climb, on the flats at speeds no issue. Just too little flow from combination of partial clog, gravity, and demand.

Anyway, ended up replacing all the fuel system, new oval tank, new shutoff with new filter screen, new gas line.......nevermore issues, can climb fine.

Jeff- Hills are fun. Traffic is not.

I have yet to see a hill I cannot pull with my 16 touring and a FULL tank of gas. If less than 1/3 tank and I am limited. The steeper the hill, the more fuel in the tank needed. I regularly pull hills in the 10-12% range, with tank in the 6+ gallon level. Have also backed up a few hills in the same range due to forgetting to check an fill the tank first.

Jeff, put the top down and secure it and anything else that could blow out. On some high bridges the wind gets pretty wild.

With my 24, it all depends on how fast I can get going BEFORE the hill !!

Don’t know what a “maximum” Hill for a 1916 Ford would be. To celebrate Colorado’s Centenniel back in ‘76, I drove my 1923 touring up a hill called Pike’s Peak. God bless Ruckstells....
