Neat Photo

Here is what I believe to be a 1913 Town Car. Yes, it has an early steering column, but I believe they had to do this to get it to work with the limited space. The photo was taken in 1947. Notice the new General Tires!

Wonder why the Town Car didn't have the same style doors as the Touring and Runabout....
Cool car, great pic. Thanks Larry!

FWIW, the factory offerings for 1913 did not include a town car, according to references I've seen. That doesn't mean a custom body couldn't have been put on a 1913 chassis. Neat car, neat photo !!

That era was wonderful. Imagine a 34 year old "antique" and the huge difference between that T and 1947 models !! Would a tire dealer these days feature a new set of tires on a 1985 model and get a similar response ?

Rich: You need to read your catalogs more carefully! Ford offered town cars through 1917. There used to be a '17 in the Harrah Collection. It said Crescent Cab Co. I wonder what happened to it?

Larry, my loss, I haven't seen any catalogs. Some production numbers I've seen don't account for any town cars, and only 1,300 or so runabouts, which seems way low to me. ?!?

What are the facts on 1913 production ? Do we know ?

The encyclopedia lists production at 1415 Town Cars produced in fiscal 1913
http://www.mtfca.com/encyclo/1913.htm

I don't know how accurate those numbers are, however, as it lists 0 in 1915, yet there are known original 1915s that still exist.

Thanks Derek, that seems to be a more reasonable number of runabouts. Where did those numbers come from ? Barring any existing examples of a 1913 town car, are there any visible earmarks in this photo that would identify it as a 1913 ?

The lamps on this car appear to be 1913 or 1914, however the front fenders certainly are not. They have a "peak" in front, indicating that they may be 1912, or 1915 - or am I wrong ?

This is out of the Ford Times and was commenting on the "1915 Ford Line".
Check out the 1915 Touring and Runabout  Gas Lamps!

They're missing the bulb horn and acetylene generator but looks pretty much spot on, Black & Brass E&J lamps.

That was that crazy (early '15 model year) time, October 1914 to April 1915, when there was trouble with the new cowl.

Who said '15's didn't have gas lamps!! :o

At least they don't have the horn upside down in Larry's photo! :P

Please excuse the poor resolution....I don't have the link to which issue I took it from.

I was looking at that fine picture of the Town Car a little closer...

Attached is a Ford factory photograph (note license plate) of the Touring car at that time.
Note that the wood firewall is painted black. It's the style built until April 1915 because of difficulty encountered with the 1915 style open car cowl.

Check out the E&J Model 32 side lamps with the round steel fonts. They have the integral brackets.
The 1914 style brass quadrant on both cars here and maybe on some of the first 1915 open cars with the new cowl.
Someone stuck some '12 style knobs on the spark and throttle levers but both hoods have no louvers.
Both would have had the bulb horn but the Town Car horn bulb was mounted under the steering column I believe.

Really neat photograph.
