First off I hate I-Phones but it is a necessary part of my job so I have to keep one on me. That said I found a very useful tip that I wanted to share. I use the GPS on the phone to find places and I noticed you can change the mode of transportation from "Drive" to "Cycle". Once you have changed it to Cycle you can pick "Avid Busy Roads". Long story short I found a way home from work that is in a 35mph zone for 12 of the 13 miles so it looks like the T will be going to work with me more often. I am sure this tip would be helpful to many on hear so I wanted to pass it along.

They work pretty good sometimes. However, a few things I have experienced. When I used to work, the address of our building was on one street, however the driveways were in back on the next block over. If you used that kind of instrument, and you went to the next street, it would tell you to turn around because you passed it. Also where I live on a gravel road, the road is named up to the point it intersects with another gravel road which is also named. Officially, that intersection is the end of the road but you go straight past one more house and then turn where the road physically ends. The last part of the road is actually our private easement. Many people have come to our house looking for the house on that road which intersects, because of that.

I had a samsung galaxy 2 for a bit over a year. I went back to a flip phone.
To complicated.
Hot spot from verizon is kinda slow compared to regular internet but it works. I bought a refurbished eyepad thing for 50 bucks and the screen on it is big enough i can touch what i am trying to touch without touching 3 other things.
Check around local flea markets and maby on ebay for a refurbished eye pad. Use it with the hotspot for connection or wifi if you go in a campground or something

I think the I-Phone by it's self is useful but having china and the government track your every move is unacceptable and very sad.

I use my i-phone so much in my speedster that I installed a usb port to charge it with. I don't think the government is listening & tracking
our every move. They have China do it, decipher it and then sell it to our government at tax payers expense. As Will Rodgers said " Be glad
we don't get all the government we pay for"

Well said. Our friend Brandon said the same ting at our last Model T event.

It's not china, it's England and I would suspect Canada, that listen and report on US citizenry and the NSA, DIA, CIA and now most likely the FBI, spy on their Citizens and have friendly " intelligence " sharing. It would be unlikely china would willingly share info back and forth unless that's what the now 97 Luftballons are for.

I use Waze for maping by avoiding interstates and as my Speedometer since there are some 30mph and lower speed zones.

When I drove from Milwaukee to Louisville to Detroit and home I used the cycle setting. Whenever it took me to a bike trail, I changed it to auto until I was far enough to change it back to cycle. Worked great. I saw a lot of farmland and small towns that I would never have seen otherwise.

p.s. I used a Droid.

We use GAIA. It is similar to Google but way more detailed. GAIA has many different overlays. We like the historical overlays that show points of interest. Gaia is very accurate. We use it when overland camping as we are usually very "off grid" with no signal at all. If you like to hike, it can even show "walking mode" It's accuracy in "walking mode" seems to be in inches. There is a slight learning curve.., but it really is pretty simple. There is a free version of Gaia, but it only has a couple overlays. The premium version is about 35 to 50 dollars per year depending on place of purchase. For us it is worth every penny. It shows just about anything you would ever want to see

Well Craig, with all due respect I WILL disagree with you about the gummint not tracking us. I have a story to tell you that will PROVE otherwise, but sadly, not even gonna do it over the phone. Has to be in person only. This has happened TWICE to me, so I will NEVER EVER believe otherwise that we're not being tracked. Sure, not 100% of the time, but there's algorythyms that "set it in motion", believe me. There is NO limit to what technology today can, and will, do.

I occasionally use the Iphone as a speedometer in my T. Usually I really don't care about the speed but it's breakdown insurance.

Guys - the Government is not tracking you they don't need to. They can let other do it and collect the data later if needed. It is likely that many apps on your phone are and you have given consent for them to do so. Now they say that they apply their surrogate ID an that is used when the information is shared (sold). Who do I know this - I developed databases & Internet apps. Doesn't matter what brand smart phone, Android or iPhone - its the Apps

I was trying to be facetious. A while back someone mentioned the state of Califunny imposing a road tax. They stated that their T would
become more valuable because it doesn't have a OBD2 ECM that can be tracked. I heard they where going to track cell phones for that.
This would would charge everyone in the car with a cell phone. Mo Money Mo Money Mo Money. If you live in a state with toll roads most
have license plate recognition for charging you. Here they banned speed cameras but I talked to a software engineer that worked on a
program to track speeders by cell phone. I met a guy that is a big gun collector and he will not take his cell phone to gun stores or gun
shows for that reason. As he said just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you.

What's wrong with using a paper map? They are still available. Especially if you have a navigator, you can get along fine using one.

When I got my Model T about 2 years ago, I put Texas tags on it and began driving it around within 2 or 3 North Texas counties. By mid-summer, I was getting dunned by some "transportation authority" for allegedly driving my T on toll roads down in the Austin area, several hundred miles from here, and not paying the tolls. I spent a lot of time on the phone dealing with those idiots, only to get more letters demanding payment and issuing threats of enforcement action. I finally went down to the local courthouse and got another set of tags with a different number. I do not have a cell phone, and do not want one.

As mentioned above use caution in cycle mode as it will take you down bike paths. When I was testing this out it did it to me.....because it took place in familiar areas it was not a problem but I can see it being a problem.
