Upholstering my ‘24 Touring

Post by Harvey Bergstrom » Tue Mar 28, 2023 9:27 pm

I will be upholstering my touring car this spring and want to know if anyone has any photos of the job anyone else has done. I got a kit from Classtique & it is beautiful! Of course I don’t want to mess it up in any way, so just trying to do some homework before tackling the job. Any photos and comments appreciated!

I know it is not a Touring, but the link below is for the first video in a series that the gentleman did on his '24 Runabout. He installed a new top and interior. I think there were 6 videos that he posted on the new top and interior for the Runabout, it looked quite good when all done.

When you install any upholstery tacks the spacing can be a concern for some. Maybe Classtique has a spacing in their kit instructions. I can’t remember if it was mentioned in the kit I bought from them for my 21 Touring.
Anyway, looking at photos from supposedly original cars they weren’t all exactly alike but close. Different upholstry installers at the factory might have used their own methods and practices but it all was pretty close but not exact every time. It can be a concern for some but for me I used what I thought was best. Good luck!

Thank you all for responding. With your help I may be able to take it on myself. I did take several photos when removing the top carefully. Yesterday, I rolled the top out on a carpet in my shop & cleaned it with a leather/vinyl conditioner. I would think a nice warm day in the sun, it will be nice and soft and easy to work with.

Push pins are your friend, they allow you to easily shift the material before you staple or tack it down for good. :)
