Installing the roof covering kit. Not sure how the front flap is to be installed at the corners. Do I cut it? Pictures anyone?

Colin, I am not familiar with how the flap sits on US Ford cars, so I may be wrong in this suggestion, but it did work most succesfully on my 1915 tourer.

The flap does not hang down at the front and it does not need cutting to length if you fit it in the following manner. Lay the flap, on the flat, on the under side of the bow. lift the ends up to the bow and nail/staple them down to the top surface of the bow first. Then go across the front in the same manner. That will leave you with some gathering/puckering to do at the corners, which will be covered by the binding when you finish it off. Then you trim off any excess which protrudes above the row of staples.

In service, the flap is held tightly forward by the windscreen, with the corners holding tension on it so it does not flap around.

It worked for me, and 27 years on is still working. It may not be as effective on later cars, depending on how far forward of the windscreen the front bow sits.

Jim, your photos confirm my suspicion that what I was posting may not apply to later cars with the front bow set well past the windscreen. It is just like it is done on our Colonial tops.

Thank you for the pictures and info. I think I can get it from here on. Not sure why the piece is made about 8-10 inches longer on each end and sewn. It's a big rectangle that is too thick to roll into place anywhere and the instructions are very vague.

Scott, The problem is the front "windscreen" is about 16inches too long compared to the pictures I have seen anywhere. It is cut square on the ends and sewn nicely. Just seemed strange that it would need to be cut down that much. It is similar to the one in the second post you mention but the instructions show it not being wrapped up around the front bow but rather tacked to the front and under. There is way to much material the way it is to ever nail it in place and look correct. Not my first top install, but my first 25 top install.

Oh, OK. Sorry the posts were not helpful. I've never done a later top, though have seen the finished product, of course. I am wondering if you could simply contact the folks who made the kit...I am wondering if one side wasn't finished off simply to keep the material in good order for packing or if it was simply done in error. I am sorry that I cannot offer any definitive info on how to proceed. This is an area where I have little experience. Best of luck cyphering this out.
