Hallelujah! We are blessed.

I had a younger member of our T club come out to my place yesterday to have some new tyres fitted. I had volunteered to show him how I do the job.

He came out with 4 beautifully prepared rims, and a 5th with an older tyre still fitted, and a set of 5 new Blockley 30 x 3.5" clinchers and tubes. The tubes were already fitted in the tyres and the whole unit plastic wrapped.

One rim already had a liner cut from the outside diameter of 13" inner tube. I had four more for the others. I use the same lubricant as my tyre dealer uses. Both beads were lubed. Both beads and the valve stem were fitted to the rim and clamped in place before we levered both beads on at the same time.

By the time we got to the 4th one, I gave him the clamps and levers, and left him to fit the last two.

Now here is the crunch. We demountable one tyre, unwrapped 5 tyre/tube units, fitted 4 rim liners, mounted 5 tyres, aired them up, deflated them and aired them up again, and stood back to admire our handiwork.

We had been at it for just 45 minutes! Did I mention they were new Blockley tyres? Beautifully soft to work with on just a 64 degree day, really authentic looking old style tread pattern. They even come with a load rating!!!

Now I need to wear out some of my old Olympics so I can fit some for myself.

I installed a couple of new Blockleys this winter and found them an easy mount, including the one I forgot to powder. :)

You know, I've always thought that if tires originally were as difficult to mount as the standard crop we now use, that horses would have prevailed in the end.

Nice to hear that Blockleys are more pliable and easier to mount than standard black tires (white tires aren't so bad).
