Concerning the “black era” model t side lamps (1916-25) were the lamps interchangeable? It seems like the only thing distinguishing between left and right is the font. Can the fonts be used interchangeably?

Yes, they are the same 1916-1927.

I kind of thought so. So the font position makes it left or right, not the body.

The body of the cowl lamp has the bayonet lock with the left and right side cutaways for the wick adjusting knob shaft.
Place the font with the burner assembly so the adjusting shaft and knob exit for left or right car mount.
