My Favorite Axle Gear, Bearing, Hub Puller

I find this puller to do the best on all the heavy pulling for my axle gears, gears, bearings, hubs (Model A) for my Model T, Model TT, and Model A. I like the positive locking ring that keeps the pulling arms from sliding off my work. The gear pictured is a Model TT axle gear it just pulled off, just like butter.

Be aware that the price of that particular puller is north of $300. They do make smaller models for less, but not having performed that pull, I don't know if a puller with less reach or capacity would be suitable.

How does that puller push the axle gears ON enough to get the C clips out to start the pull? That is often the hardest part of the gear removal task.

Allan,

To get the axle gear pushed down to get the C clip off, I stand the axle up (gear side up) on a block of wood (nut on the axle shaft to rest on the block of wood). Then I have a short steel pipe with a cap that slips over the axle and sits on the gear on the flat edge. Then I hit it with a 4 lb hammer to drive it down. I have removed eight Model TT axle gears that way ( I do not have a tall press in my shop area). Sometime it takes a few hits to get the gear to move.
