Brake Rivets

I am going to be relining the brakes on my TT this weekend and have a few questions. I would like to start with the fact that I ordered the TT brake lining set from langs. I believe the part number is 1057-8. Anyways, it came with 2 strips of lining material when each shoe requires its own piece. Should I just cut them down to 12 inches. It looks like I have enough material for each shoe. Secondly, the rivets are the tubular style and not the split style that were on the truck originally. How should I orient the rivets. Should I put the head outside towards the drum or in towards the axle shaft? Also, should I drill holes in the lining for the rivets?

Jacob I have not done TT brakes but have done 26/7 brakes and i countersunk the tubular rivets. Heads on the drum side with split rivets I don’t know. The brake material is fairly tough & I’d think you may need a special rivet tool. I suppose they’d be set like the bands in the transmission using a tool that roles the split back into the material. Thanks John. I have the little tool to set the rivets. What tools do you need to countersink the rivets and do I need to do that.

I used the tool set that Langs sells. It includes a countersink bit.

The product description includes advice about clamping and chamfering the ends of the lining that I followed.
I relined the brakes a couple of years ago and found this photo showing the countersunk hole I had made with the bit from the kit.

I bought that tool as well. I’m not sure it has the same bits though. I will check later today.
