TIMING TOOL

Post by Professor Fate » Fri May 26, 2023 2:52 am

Is this tool labelled "B" sold by a retailer, or fabricated individually?

It would have been quicker for you to check the vendors on line catalogs than post your question with photo's here. but to answer your question, Langs, $1.45

Just use the "9:30-3:30" crank pin method and you'll be fine. PM me if you're not familiar with it and I'll describe it to you. Gimme your cell number even and I will call you.

It's pretty easy. No special tool needed.

Different strokes for different folks. Steve’s method works pretty good.

The tool shown is real similar to the one that could be homemade in Tinkerin Tips years ago.

I'm a tool geek. I like to collect stuff.
I made something similar out if a paint stick using my other cars timer as a model. I'll grab a mix for you all when I go out to the shop shortly

Beware, as others have stated, the Ford Service Manual timer gage the vendors sell is ONLY reliable when using a Ford timer and a Ford roller. Other timers have different internals, brushes, or different rollers.

That's the "9:30-3:30" method I plan to talk to him about.

This tool only works on stock roller timer
Best way is Crank ratchet pin is parallel to the ground this puts piston TDC half the time set and run and fine tune as needed

Here's a pic of my homemade timing tool from 2 yrs ago. It's a wood paint stick. I had never seen the picture in the manual until the other day. I used my other T to make this one pictured. Manual dimension is 2.5 inches from center of each hole. Mine is 2.75 in.
I get repeated hot starts and my car starts easy. Sunday I'll look at 330-930 pun location. Thanks to all for your help.
