26/27 Roadster Pickup Bed

Post by Mike Robinson » Sat May 11, 2019 10:23 pm

Does anyone know how Ford would finish the wood in the bed . Oil , stain varnish or paint ? Or was it just left natural ?

Is the thickness of the wood 13/16" as a 1925 is? What month did Ford come out with the new design '26 bed?

The thickness of my 26 is 13/16 . My bed has been replaced in the past but it fits correctly.

Thanks for posting Mike. Even though I don't own a '26 pickup, I like to know those things. As far as the wood goes, Gator got me my wood several years ago. He got me 4/4 rough Southern Yellow Pine, which is hard stuff. I milled it down to 13/16" on my driveway, and ripped each board to the correct width. I rabbeted the left and right sides down 1/16 to fit under the bed sides. Later on, a friend found out I could get Southern Yellow right here in Los Angeles. They use it for scaffolding.
