Crimping a seat bottom on a 27 touring

So I've watched the videos and see that a large set of Channel Locks will work for the task. What I haven's seen is the actual crimping done. Looking at the channel I can see where one side has a sharp edge and the other is rounded. I know the welt cord runs along the inner part of the channel, compressing the springs, etc. Here is my question:

When you crimp are you bending the sharp edge of the channel toward the top of the seat cushion leaving room for the welt cord to be pulled? This would be with the seat cushion face down being compressed.

The welt cord is sewn into the upholstery edge. That bump (welt filled edge) is what gets captured in the crimp.
yes, the sharp edge touches the material & shows @ the seat bottom edge.

Thanks so much!! I just wanted to be sure. I'm guessing I'll have to do some touchup paint along the edge after the crimping.
