Tail shaft and clutch shift

Was the clutch shift keyed to the tail shaft throughout production or when was the keyway eliminated? Got a transmission recently that the person was destroying taking it apart.
It was rusted and very stuck and the tail shaft was very rusted and not usable but had the keyway. Clutch shift had been thrown away. The transmission shaft flange had been drilled through into the brake drum shaft so the drums could be removed from the flywheel leaving the shaft in the drums. The clutch drum had been pulled. The rough ended shaft had been driven into the brake drum shaft pushing the bushing in further.
I have pushed the transmission shaft out but the driven gear is stuck.and will try heat with my puller.
I believe the drilled end of the brake drum shaft could be welded up and turned as the damage is not too bad. The best part is that the brake drum has near perfect lugs in it.
I do not need it but will work on it slowly and get it apart and cleaned up so I can check it over and find someone needing drums. Too many things to due right now but will try to get a picture in a day or two.
