Something to watch out for that’s for sure. Other pests you might encounter are lug lice, transmission ticks, motor moths, carburetor butterflies, and radiator bees.

Don't those little asphalt/tar deposits look like ants on your wheels? So... just a slang term

Road repairs can create little tar balls on wheels & the car body. Those on the wheels can settle into wheel crevices after heating up due to braking. Like dust or brake deposits one wheels. I hope the DOT 3 reference wasn't brake fluid

I've had issues lately with gasoline butterflies. Try to pour gas into the tank and the damned things come from all directions and try to fly into the tank. If you leave the cap off the tank or the gas can, they will fly right into 'em.
