26/27 hood shelf wood spacer question

Searched previous topics and vendor images and couldn't find what I would like to know. Restoring a 27 Depot Hack and under the metal hood shelf were two plywood spacer bocks with several holes in them. I want to replace with the correct thickness hardwood and it looks to me that this block should be one approx. 2" x 24" long piece with the correct holes in them for mounting and hood clips and springs.
If this is correct, does the wood space go all the way to the front end of the shelf and would have a large hole in it for radiator mounting? Or was the wood just there to absorb pressure on the hood clips and two small pieces would be acceptable.

I'll hang up and listen.

The hardwood blocks on the '26-'27 are two pieces, left and right, for ea. metal shelf.

The longer one is curved to fit the front end of the shelf, the rear block is smaller. The blocks have angled and countersunk holes for the hood clasps, and holes for the mounting bolts.

Robert, I make my own hood shelf blocks, to the same pattern as the originals, but, I make them a bit thicker so the edges of the shelves do not make contact with the fenders and consequently rub the paint/cause rust/squeek.

Since the current blocks are plywood with large holes for Bubba to easily use, I've ordered a set from Lang's with the mounting hardware and may consider using them as a pattern and making my own out of hardwood.
But, at least I know what they should look like.

thanks to all.

Have used the Lang's blocks on two '26-27 restores, and the blocks are correct, have angled holes needed for proper placement of the hood clips, and groove in right place for headlamp wire loom, and other holes. They have correct height to fit right, and all in all like stock, and made of hardwood.

On this one, installed thin discs of hard plastic under the hood clasps to prevent the hook ends from scratching the paint too. ;)
