Thanks to all the help offered in a previous post, I now have a nice cable housing for my Corbin speedo.

First I used a Dremel tool to clean the area either side of the damage. Then I tinned the cleaned up area. The copper wire was included to keep solder fom the inside of the housing and to bridge the gap

I cut sleeve from sheet brass and tinned the inside.

This was held in place with a hose clamp and sweated around the housing, additional solder being applied through the join and around the ends. I clogged a file getting it cleaned up.

This heat shrink finished the job. It is a special product used by our electric supply company on transmission lines. Getting it over the ferrule at the cable end was easy, but then it had to shrink a lot. At the same time it produces a sealant around the joint so no moisture can get under it.

The whole thing is now hanging in font of our wood stove, drying a coat of black enamel.
