Engine rebuild.

Hello all,

I just started the rebuild of an unknow engine.
Here is what I found on the crankshaft.
I am wondering what should be done with the fourth rod and the weights welded on the crankshaft?
The camshaft seemed to be grinded. How can I be sure about the way it was done? (will post photos of it later)

Thanks for some advice.

We don't like to weld on a crank, but what is done is done.

The bolts that come with the weights, we do not use, as we had a set come loose once. Nothing hurt, as they just slide back and fourth about 1/4 inch, but you can hear them. We have used about 175 sets, and never any trouble, I like them very much.

We use Caterpillar, bolts, and castle Nuts, Grade 8.

We grind the rod pins, fit the weights, then grind the mains, and spin balance the crank last.

About all you can do with No. 4 rod, and 3 main, is a 4 dip pan.
