I removed the worn-out toothless handbrake quadrant from my wife's '27 touring but am stumped trying to get the new one in.I can't figure for the life of me why old Henry chose to rivet this piece to the frame instead of bolting it in place, but that is my problem.I got the old one out by cutting it in two with a metal saw and the pieces slipped effortlessly off the rivets without having to remove them(which I have no idea how to do) but of course,with the rivets protruding from the frame,it seems like an impossibility to get the new quadrant in position.If I could get the damn rivets out it would be easy,but...what am I to do?? my wife is convinced that I have rendered DAISY undrivable for ever. Any hints out there like rivet removal or something to bail a newby outta the doghouse???

Have you tried loosening the body and fender bolts and removing the splash shield so that you can get a straight shot at the frame? It's more work for sure, but if you do it right should last your lifetime. If you bolt it on, there is a possibility that the bolts could loosen and that you could lose your parking brake sometime in the future. You can grind off the heads of the rivets and then put the new ones in from the inside so that you could peen them from the outside of the frame.

Victor, this is getting kind of interesting. In the MTFCI Judging Guidelines, 7th Edition, for the '27's, for item 510, Frame, it shows that the Hand Brake Quadrant was bolted to the frame, not rivited, and here you have a '27 that had the quadrant rivited!!! So what gives? Well, maybe this was a running change, or one of the assembly plants still using the rivits & hasn't made the change yet, or who knows?

Anyway, this means you can use bolts and lock washers to mount your new quadrant. I've done that on my '27 and doubt that it makes a lot of difference to anyone.

You HAVE to remove the old rivets - Dremel cut-off wheel then a punch or drill them out.
