Wood band question

I just wanted to ask a question about wood bands. It is time for new linings and thought that I would try wood but I wanted to ask if you have to pull the hogshead to install them. I have a 26 with quick change bands. If it requires the hogshead to come off I will probably go with Kevlar instead.
Thanks

Colonelpowers.... For what you're asking, wood lined bands with detachable ears can be installed with a transmission cover intact. First off, as with any re-lining project, you would need a transmission drum as a guide to adjust and bend the metal bands to conform to the drum before installing lining. On installation they could be fed in through the transmission inspection door and then secured with lock, washer and nut. Band adjustments should be followed by the Ford service manual..

If this is your first time just plan on pulling the hogshead regardless of band choice. It can be done thru the inspection plate with much more cussing.

Either require a HH pull. If your goal is to not remove the HH, go with scandia or cotton.
Mangling your bands installing thru the inspection door is an invite to disaster with kevlar.

The one & only time I attempted wood lining replacement through the "hole", half of the rivets pulled through & cracked the wood !!!
