Headlight Rim Tool

I have been putting off changing my headlight bulbs dreading the headlight rim removal. I have tried many home remedies over the years, but I find the headlight rim removal difficult with whatever I try. I have contemplated making the headlight rim tool in the Ford Service Bulletin for years, but never wanted to take the time, besides I only need to get the rims off once every 15-20 years. Today I made the tool, and the headlight rims came off rather easily, should have made one decades ago. Ford Service Bulletin, Vol 2, No 4, Pg 27, Fig 48, "Tool for Removing Headlamp Doors". Used every inch of a 4' length of 3/4 x 1/8 metal bar. Brazed the handle rather than rivet, otherwise followed the directions. Still have to push in hard at the rivet points while turning but now I can do it without a second set of hands helping me.

I got one and it's really slick..no more struggles. I took a suggestion from fellow forum poster Royce and lined the inside of it with electrical tape so rim won't be marred up up. I put a little grease on rim to facilitate attaching it. Great idea!
