I am sorry to object Steve. I understand your desire to calm the waters. However I have seen all too many old car shows become hot rod old car shows. Once the door is cracked open, they don't go back. I would rather go to a Hershey that was half the size it is today if it kept true to the old cars, rather than a Hershey that was twice as big and more dedicated to the hot rods. One major show, is it too much to ask? A year to let it play out and see how things work has already started an integration that the old old car guys can't, wont win. NOW would be the time to complain not when it's already started.

Besides the car corral, when did Hershey become a car show?

It has been for many many years. Always the last day of the Meet.

I have heard from a good source that Herco is forcing them to move the meet in a few years anyway. No idea where to yet. Guess we shall see what happens.

The good old days when almost everything was pre-war.

I guess the hobby is continually in transition. Our local club would not exist if not for the folks with modified cars. We still try to put the emphasis on "preservation" However the brass cars are fading fast. Model As are next. AACA should be large enough to survive as it has been in the past. Many of the magazines I subscribe to have fewer old cars and more vintage and muscle cars.
There were many purists and folks who concentrated on originality on the forum. More and more modifications for safety, better performance and blatant racing equipment have become more prevalent in recent years. Facebook is much the same. These are relevant to the Model T story and interesting to see, but the trend has changed over the years.
A fellow running for the HCCA board mentions his intentions to keep the club pre-15. I'm not sure what issues they are considering. I think they do sponsor a "Nickle" tour which may allow later cars.
So, here we are. Enjoy what you have the best way you can and brace yourselves for more changes over the years.

The car show always was there since the 50’s I’ve been going to Hershey since 1973 and my dad was early 60’s The Blue Field the space is now where the wooden roller coaster by the road is.

As far as Herco pushing the show out this is been going on since the 90’s Hershey Region had the opportunity to buy the Military Base in Indian Gap to put the show there but it fell through. Talking with the Chocolate Field heads last year they Herco has a contract to keep the show there for 5 years so far

Yes the Antique car hobby is changing.

1. Seeing a 1966 Nova with an antique plate.

2. Rat Rods as allowable transportation.

3. Automobile museums selling older collections so a newer classic can be considered as antique automobiles.

4. Yes BOB, Hershey is mainly a classy car show. Selling the collectibles is an after thought. see the following for a history of Hershey as we know it today,

"AACA should be large enough to survive as it has been in the past." That could be because AACA is not locked into what years it allows, the cutoff being 25 years or older.
Guess I never really thought about Hershey being a car show. To me and maybe many others, it is a swap meet. But like everything else, you got to move with the times and market.

If you have any questions about it i also recommend posting directly on the AACA Forum. You do not need to be an AACA member to do that. I Also recommend looking at the Hershey Region AACA Website - everything you wanted to know and more about the event is there.

this rumor has been circulating for a long time but is totally false. It has been addressed many times on both the Hershey Region and AACA websites/discussion forum. Not sure who that "good source" is, but they are totally wrong. If you have any further questions about this just ask our AACA CEO Steve Moskowitz.
